draw

Twas the Phoenix’s first game of the season proper last night and they ground out a very uninspiring 1-1 draw against the Queensland Roar.  Besides the game Vic and I have a very nice afternoon with a late lunch in town and then a few drinks before the game.

I also took my camera with a 28mm prime on it but didn’t take a lot of shots.  Here’s a few from the night…..

heartache

The mighty Phoenix reached the first cup final in their short history and last night played the Melbourne Victory, last years league winners, in the pre-season cup final.

9,208 people watched the two teams have their chances in regulation time but no-one could break the nil all deadlock.  After 90 minutes it all came down to a penalty shootout.

The Phoenix lost 8-7 after about 15 minutes of agonising shots from the spot…….

A great but ultimately disappointing night.

Here’s Vic and Emma during the shootout!

results

This was a great weekend for football (soccer) results:

  • My masters team won 1-0 for our first win of the season
  • Max’s team won their “little dribblers” game 6-1. He also bought his first set of boots.
  • The Phoenix won an exhibition, Chinese earthquake charity match 6-2. Vic and I took Max and Elliot along for their first Phoenix game – Max enjoyed it and Elliot was over it in about 20 minutes 🙂

Max and I also had a great bonding moment this afternoon as we sat there cleaning our boots together…..

little dribblers

Max had his first game of football (soccer) today with the little dribblers football club 🙂 Unfortunately Vic and I are in Sydney but supposedly Max’s team won 4-2 and Max scored a goal! He also got a certificate for player of the day!
