sick

It’s been a week of vomit this week – yay wink A virus (possibly the one that I had in Sydney) has done the rounds, thankfully missing Vic out.

Max started it off earlier in the week with horrible diarrhoea and generally feeling crook.  I got him out of bed Wednesday morning and he’d exploded out of his nappy and all through his bed – that was fun to clean up at 05:45 in the morning!  I think he was more upset about it than me though.  His one and only vomit was on Thursday and luckily I had a feeling it was going to happen and managed to get a bowl smile This was after he’d woken up at about 22:00 saying “me sore tummy” and wanting to have a cracker to eat.  After that he seemed to perk up a bit which was just in time for it to hit Elliot.

Elliot had it hit him slightly differently in that he’s been vomiting a lot more (and with no warning) but has been shitting a lot less.  Fri/Sat/Sun he bought up the entire contents of his stomach about twice a day and usually after a really heavy feed to give him some ammo smile He hasn’t thrown up today so fingers crossed……..

Other than that things are well.

where to start….

Well I got back home on Friday and haven’t stopped since!

Sydney was OK.  I got a bout of food poisoning on the plane (probably before) and spent the next 15 hours shitting, shaking and sweating!  The fever broke about five in the morning and so I started my presentation skills course with a five minute videotaped presentation and 90 minutes sleep…. yay smile

After five days I got home and, man, what a change in Elliot. His whole face seemed to have changed shape. Now I see what my mother means when she only sees him once a week.

In kiddy news Max and Elliot had their first bath together on Saturday night.  Max was absolutely fantastic with Elliot and spent most of the time pouring water over him out of a bottle.  Here they are….

time flies

Man time flies!

What is there to say?  Everyone here is well and we’re all pretty healthy.  Vic and I have good days and bad days when it comes to being tired but we manage to catch ourselves before we get too stroppy wink

Since his birth Elliot has put on just under a kilo (2.2 lbs) and we are pretty happy with that.  All in all he’s a good wee man and in the last week has started sleeping in two lots of 3-4 hours during the night so Vic gets a pretty good sleep for the most part.  This is just as well as work has been really busy and I’ve been out all day (almost like a real job!)

We also buried Elliot’s placenta in the garden in the weekend and planted a Camellia tree over it.  This is a Maori tradition that Vic thought would be nice to do.  The tree will certainly hold a special place in our hearts.

There are no new pictures of Elliot (plus he’s gone all spotty!) but there are three cute ones of Max in the extended entry……

one week

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) Elliot 3 Comments »

I can’t believe that Elliot is a week old already! The midwife came around today for another check (passed with flying colours) and a weigh in.  Like Max, Elliot is not shy when it comes to eating and in a week has lost weight and then surpassed his birth weight easily.  He is now 4 ounces heavier than when he was born and feeds really well.  All up he seems to be a very contented child and doesn’t cause any fuss unless he’s really hungry – nice smile

The picture below shows Max helping with Elliot’s first bath the other day.  He was very gentle and got really worried when Elliot started to cry during his bath and needed quite a bit of convincing that he wasn’t to blame and that babies just cry for no reason…..

brief

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) Elliot 3 Comments »

Hi everyone!  I thought I’d log in and give you brief run down of the last few days……..

Vic and Elliot came home on Friday about 20 hours after the birth and got settled in over the next few hours.  Elliot had been very good at the hospital and Vic thought that a feed at about 20:00 would be a good idea as he’d feed and go to sleep and then Vic would be able to get a couple of hours kip before the next feed…… yeah right!  Elliot just wanted to feed and feed and feed until about 01:30 in the morning!  This is normal of course as it’s the constant attempts at feeding that bring milk on but it’s a bloody killer all the same!

We decided that instead of telling people to wait before they came round we’d have “visiting hours” between 15:00 and 17:00 on Sat and Sun which has worked out really well.  Elliot, Max and Vic have all had a sleep between about 12:30 and 14:30 both days and so have been all bright and bushy tailed for our guests smile

Last night followed a different pattern in that Elliot would feed for an hour then sleep for an hour and repeat.  Vic was up about four times during the night and as there was nothing I could do I slept so that I had the energy to look after Max during the day.  This has worked out well and allowed Vic to sleep for about 3.5 hours during the time that Max was up today.

So the last two days have gone by in a bit of a blur but Elliot seems to be a happy, healthy wee boy (and the Midwife confirmed that today)

Here’s a decent picture of him – does he look familiar! Have a look in the extended text for a picture of Max at a really early age.
