pukalicious, baby!

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) Elliot, Max, News No Comments »

Who knew that kids could fit so much puke and shit in them!

The last three days have seen both our boys the sickest I’ve ever seen them 🙁 They are slowly on the improve but it’s taking a while.

Monday night Vic and I went up to bed about 10:30 and as we usually do we checked in on the boys.  We walked into Elliot’s room to find that he’d vomited a small amount over the side of his cot and onto the floor.  I picked him up out of his cot and took him into the bathroom while Vic started to clean up.  Almost as soon as I got him into the bathroom he proceeded to bring up almost every scrap of food he’d eaten in the last day or so all over my neck, sweatshirt, jeans and feet in about four massive heaves!  The bizarre thing is that I was standing there being puked on (he takes after his Mum – long story smile) and all I was thinking was “I really hope he’s going to be alright”.  The next two hours were spent bathing him to get the vomit out his hair, redressing him, redressing him again after he exploded from his nappy through his pyjamas, sleeping bag and my jeans.  He puked a few more times and we finally got him settled back into his cot about 12:30 and staggered into bed.

For two hours.  Then we went through a similar process with Max vomiting from 02:30 to about 03:30.

Elliot exploded again about 5:00 so then we decided to just get up!  Max then started with the explosive diarrhoea….. yay!

Tuesday was spent with Max sleeping most of the time (except when he was sprinting to the toilet – and making it 3 out of four times) and Elliot throwing up anything that entered his mouth almost instantly.  The strange thing is that they haven’t had a temperature and besides feeling tired haven’t seemed particularly “ill”

Since then they’ve both eaten small amounts of food, drunk quite a bit of water and slept a lot – except at night of course where the average number of times getting up is about three.

It seems that there is a rotavirus going around at the moment that really wipes them out for a while but hopefully they’re on the improve……

Ahh the joys of parenthood smile

hi from sydney

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) Elliot, Max, News No Comments »

Morning all and hi from Sydney!  Between KL and here I was home for 5 days and it was great to be back.  KL was just training so not much to say about it – Sydney has been sales ra-ra stuff and again, not much to say.

Every one at home is well although Elliot seems to be teething again and has turned into a grizzly, dribbly boy.  Max just spends his time flipping from gorgeous and funny to stroppy and a pain in the ass – a normal three year old I think!

40th

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) Elliot, Max, News 1 Comment »

Thanks to everyone that sent emails, left messages, gave gifts or otherwise had any input into my 40th birthday celebrations.  I am now officially “in my forties” and don’t feel any the worse for it smile

In other news Elliot is hardly crawling now and spends most of his time racing around grabbing anything that his new found vertical stature allows him to reach – yay!  It has opened up a whole new level of mischief for him and he’s taking full advantage of it…….  Other than that the boys have been well with no major health or behavioral issues.

Here are some pics…

hey there

Hi there all!  I hope you are all well and that someone is still visiting and looking at this update smile

We’ve all been clogged up with colds for the last couple of weeks but besides that we are OK.  This update will go into a couple of the things we’ve been up to and includes a number of pics (hopefully not too much of a download….)

Max has now been going to Kindergarten for over a month and in the last week or so has got over the “this is new and exciting” phase and moved into the “Mum is leaving me and I’m going to freak out” phase! Supposedly this is fairly normal and he seems to be getting a wee bit better already.

One of the things they do is have a kid sized doll at kindy called Lian.  Every day someone gets to take her home and then the next day they tell the other children what they got up to (usually in the form of a written report from the parents).  It was Max’s turn last week and he had her for two nights.

Everyone gets to have a story

Time for bed

A while back we bought Max a small blow-up globe which he loved.  He could point to New Zealand and say that was where we live, point to Australia and say that was where I go for work sometimes and point to the UK and say that is where Zak lives smile This was fine until he bit a hole in it and although I tried fixing it things were never going to be the same…..  Vic and I decided that as he liked the little one so much we’d buy him a bigger one and see what he thought of it.

You guess.

Elliot is making progress on his walking but still doesn’t take more than a couple of steps at a time.  I know we don’t post many pictures of him so here are a couple.

With kindy and playgroup and music and play dates Max leads a hectic life these days.  Some days it’s just all a bit much……..

back from sydney (6 days ago!)

And boy has there been news!

• Max started Kindergarten on Monday!  The reason that there was no build-up was because Vic only got a call last Thursday saying “we’ve had a couple of people leave the area so would max like an early start?” “Damn right” said Vic (I paraphrase of course smile) Due to the number of children in the area he wasn’t supposed to start until July so this is quite a bit early.  Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 12:45 till 15:15. So far it’s gone really well…..  Monday he had a wee accident, as it were, but to be fair it was all new and exciting and I just think he forgot.  Vic was there with him for the whole time Monday and Tuesday and Tuesday he was great.  Today she left him for an hour in the middle of the session and he hardly noticed she was gone so he should be OK next week.

• Elliot walked!  It happened on Friday and he took four to five steps twice according to Vic.  Naturally I was in Sydney and of course he hasn’t done it since…… typical!

• Sydney was, well, work really.  The one fantastic thing was going sailing on Sydney harbour on Wednesday afternoon.  Match racing modern racing boats in front of the Opera House and harbour bridge that have competed in the Volvo ocean race around the world was awesome.  They were run by these guys and to give you an idea of how close and hard the racing was we came second in our 30 minute race by 14 seconds.  The smallest winning margin in the five three boat races was 8 seconds!

tea anyone?

Max had four of us around for tea the other day.  Vibrating Bee wore his usual, oh so eighties, yellow and black striped jumpsuit. Dog Who Sings In Rain (his native American name) was unusually quiet due to feeling run down (or so his batteries inferred) and Peter Rabbit joined us in a lovely blue ensemble from this years Autumn collection at Versace.  A place of honour, and the special green cup, was reserved for Daddy who unfortunately is not in the picture due to his doubling up as official photographer for the gala event.

After we all ate our fill it was time to pack up as Mummy said dinner was ready.  I mentioned the bad timing to Max and said that I really didn’t think that I could eat Mummy’s cooking as I’d filled my tummy with chocolate cake pudding (with ketchup), fizzy and Easter eggs.  Max then looked at me and said “Oh Daddy, it’s only pretend”

Ahh yes……….

blimey – it’s an update!

So now all I have to do is remember what’s happened since last we spoke……. I think I’ll do my normal trick of bullet points smile

• Elliot now has seven, yes seven, teeth!  He’s turning into a real little charmer as well with his toothy grin, blonde wavy hair and cheeky laugh.

image

• In one week he will be one. I know!  I have no idea where the time has gone 🙁 I was talking about it with Vic last night and I remember the day he was born (at least from when Vic and I left home for the hospital) with crystal clarity.  Before I know it he’ll be leaving home…… hopefully wink

• Elliot has also got the stage where he is standing for periods of time on his own without realising it and then crumpling to the floor when he notices.  Very funny to watch.

• Max is the same wee boy – a joy one minute and a right little shite the next.  He gets on really well with Elliot and it’s very funny watching them interact in various ways.  After dinner tonight Max was crawling after Elliot who was crawling away and squealing hilariously.  When Max caught Elliot he’d blow raspberries on his bum and then it would all start again.  All great fun until Elliot filled his nappy and Max comes up from the next raspberry with a wrinkled nose and tells us that “Elliot’s got a really stinky bum” lol!

• Max said this morning “I don’t want daddy to screw it up” about something that I was about to do.  Bizarre.

• Vic and I had a weekend away with some friends a couple of weekends ago – yay!  Max stayed at home with his Grandad and Elliot spent the weekend at his Granny’s.  We went to Martinborough which is both a town and a wine growing region about an hours drive away.  A very adult weekend was had with food, drinking, wine tours and much silliness – great.  We stayed at the Secret Garden which just lovely and a perfect size for six people.

• I started playing football (soccer) again, after a break of 23 years, and am playing for the Masters team (35+) of Naenae football club.  The first game of the season (3-2 loss) I completely knackered my achilles tendons and have been unable to play the last two weeks.  The physiotherapist has no idea when I’ll be OK to play 🙁 Getting old, I tell ya………

Other than that life just seems to have been passing me by at a crazy rate.
