My life is dead boring at the moment so let’s read about other people’s………

Viz has always been one of my favourite magazines and they have their Joy of sexism records online.
These are not all female related – the ridiculous guy stuff starts on page four.
Those that know me will understand why I was almost crying reading this stuff
Got broadband? cable? Any internet connection that is always on? I was visiting one of my regular reads The Luminous Landscape and Michael had an interesting link to a site that tests how secure your connection is.
Shields up! seem like a pretty cool service (and it’s free
) It shows my system to be secure except for one area (and no I’m not going to say what it is!)
Give it a go.
I saw this on TechTV today. It’s the police log from the Arcata Eye newspaper. What a hoot! Here’s an example day:
Sunday, April 13
12:49 a.m. A woman apparently tried to beat her way into a closed G Street sandwich shop. But the door withstood her effrontery, and she was arrested and jailed on a public drunkenness charge.
1:13 a.m. Another public drunkiliciousness arrest, a few blocks away.
1:29 a.m.
A loyal wife picked up her swain
Who’d got too much booze in his brain
But the cross-’Cata cruisy
Made drinky-boy woozy
So he puked his guts down a street drain.
2 a.m. A big trailer park blowout prepared one man for a night in the Pink House of a drunk-o beef.
2:47 a.m. Yet another greenshirt, this one in his late teens, tried to enter a West End Road employee’s car and was detained in a makeshift break room brig before his trip to the Pink House.
3:42 a.m. A metaphor for human existence was spotted in the 1800 block of Q Street, but police couldn’t find the enfeebled, near-moribund personage seen crawling in the roadway, attempting unsuccessfully to rise.
This is a print screen from Zone Alarm Pro on my PC. Since I got broadband a little while back I thought I should use some protection (the lessons from my Mother came back to haunt me years later
) and so I installed Zone Alarm. As you can see, since then there have been 462 intrusions and 138 of these have been classed as “high-rated”
Now I’m not an expert in internet security but this seems a bit harsh. What’s really scary is what these were and what might have happened if I wasn’t using an electronic prophylactic!

For those that design their own websites (or any sort of design actually) check out Eric Meyer’s Colour Blender – a very nice tool for getting hex colours that suit
Then play spamwars!
A bit easy and a bit silly but some of the email titles are very recognisable ![]()
Back in NZ we used to get earthquakes all the time. Here in the UK they had a couple a while back and freaked out a bit
They were rated at about 3.8-4.0 on the Richter scale and shook things up a little bit.
Vic’s Mum said they had a tremor in Wellington yesterday or the day before and that it had made the news. A couple of years ago I had seen a website that recorded all the earthquakes in New Zealand so I go on the web and went hunting………..
I found this page that shows all the recent quakes in NZ – there are more than I realised!
