Blimey an entry that’s all text! It’s 10:30 at night and I’m lying in bed with my laptop and it’s the first time that I’ve had free today……. I finished work at 21:30 and that’s the earliest this week
We’re all just getting over the last cold that Max bought home from playgroup – Vic actually got this one too so that’s nice for her! Max seems to be really enjoying his three mornings a week at playgroup and although he’s catching colds etc. I feel that he can only benefit from the interaction with the other children.
He continues to amaze me with the speed at which he picks things up. He only needs to be shown things a few times and he’s got it sussed. There are two things that he’s got sorted in the last week. The first is dipping
He had some chips (fries) the other day and we showed him twice how to dip them in tomato sauce. From then on at least half the mouthfuls he took he dipped into the sauce.
The other was drinking from an open cup! I gave him a tiny bit of water in the bottom of a beaker yesterday and although it was only a little bit he didn’t spill much at all in the 10 or so mouthfuls he took – very cool. I’m such a proud dad
That’s me done – I’m beat and need some sleep. Night all

We had such a scare with Max yesterday!
He has roman blinds in his room and we had moved his cot away from the side that has the pull string so that he wouldn’t play with it while he was in his cot. Sensible we thought……
Yesterday we put him down for his nap and went about our business. I was downstairs and Vic was just about to hop in the shower when she heard a funny noise from his room. She went in and found him with a string wrapped around his neck and his eyes bulging!!!
Somehow he had got the string that was built into the blind wrapped around his neck and then he’d pulled away and tightened it around his neck. He’d pulled it so tight that he still has a raised red mark around his neck more than 24 hours later.
Very scary and whenever I look at his neck it sends shudders down my spine thinking about how close we came to possibly losing him……..

Poor Max is ill for the first time 🙁 He’s caught the cold that Abbey had when she visited in the weekend and is pouring snot out his nose like a tap! It’s about time he got sick – hopefully it’ll build his immunity up a bit. He also threw up last night and I can’t believe that we caught it in a bowl! His coughing caused it so we had a bowl ready just in case. We also thought he’d thrown up in bed but then realised that he’d just been sleeping on his front and had smeared snot all around with his face. The funny thing is he woke up from his morning nap and had white, dried snot all over his eyebrows and looked like a little old man! lol! He’s also got another molar coming through (his third) which is swelling his cheeks up like a chipmunk
And on top of all this we tried giving him a haircut last night and, although he looks cute, I’m not too sure about the fringe……
The 17mm lens I was using didn’t help either!

Max now has his first molar! Yep, it came though yesterday (still no sight of #8 front tooth though) Having an extra tooth might make up for the one he just took a great chip out of! He has always liked to play with my maglight and today decided to smash it into his face whilst standing up! He chipped off about 1/8th of one of his middle top teeth the silly eejit! and know looks even more dentally out of balance – lol!
Other Max related points:
? In the last few weeks he’s started to show affection (awww) He’ll come up to you and lay his head on your leg (or chest if you’re lying down) and just hold it there for a while. It really is very sweet and makes me go all gooey
? He’s also started to look at you between his legs when he’s standing up! He’ll bend over and either put his hands on the floor and look at you between his legs or just put the top of his head on the floor and peek through
It looks so funny!
That’s about it for now.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAX!

I can’t believe that our wee man is one year old 🙁 One of the kids that came to Max’s party was only 8 weeks old and it was amazing to think that Max was that small – seems like yesterday too! Now he’s walking and burbling and feeding himself (and the walls, chairs, me…..) and is a real little person. Does every year pass this quickly? I hope not, but if it does I can see why people with teenagers still say that it seems like yesterday that their children were just babies.
A bittersweet day for me today……….

The highlight of this weekend was Max’s first birthday party!
All I can say is madness! We had 24 adults and seven children in our wee house and it was absolute bedlam
Luckily after two weeks of crappy weather the day was stunning with no cloud and just a gentle breeze. Max was, of course, spoilt rotten and between getting drinks and cooking up a storm on the BBQ I probably said a dozen words to him or Vic all day 🙁 People were gone by about 8:30pm and Vic and I collapsed into bed about an hour later – lol!
Just a great day and many thanks must go to my darling wife for all the preparation and hard work, my Mum for the great cake, Auntie Lala for being herself in the kitchen on the day, Max for being an angel all day and not getting stroppy even though he had no afternoon nap and everyone for the presents and coming along and making it the fantastic day it was.
The are loads of pictures here (courtesy of Uncle Jay) – just little ones and fairly compressed so all you people on dial-up can enjoy them as well
