It’s this photo again!
Amateur Photographer magazine runs a year long Photographer of the Year competition with various “themes” for each monthly round. From the thousands of entries received each month from all around the world (35mm, Medium Format, Digital and Large Format) they choose a winner and 29 other point scoring entries. Last month the theme was architecture so I thought I might as well print off a copy and send it in – nothing to lose right?
This was the first time I had entered and I had my picture published in the magazine!
I must admit that as this is the highest selling weekly photography magazine in the world this means quite a lot to me! Sure, I didn’t win anything and I have been in What Digital Camera magazine twice (and won a printer) but this is the first actual published competition I have entered and to get what is in effect an “honourable mention” makes me a very happy chappy :vbg:

It’s been a while but I’ve got another Picture Of The Day (POTD) at http://www.digitalphotocontest.com This shot has been entered 12 times now and was picked at last :vbg:
Here’s some stats from the site (they’ve put up a new section)
? There are 10 categories with one winner picked per category each day
? 474 pictures were entered yesterday (12 July)
? So far 6395 entries have been received this month (approx 16,000 per month!)
I’ve been entering pictures here for about 2 years now and have 10 POTD’s with one monthly Best of Category and one monthly Grand Prize winner. It’s a tough site and getting tougher all the time so I’m glad to win anything these days.
Anyone reading this that has an interest in photography should visit the site and have a look around (especially the archive section) as there is some stunning work there.

I had my first session as a “wedding photographer” in the weekend! A friend of mine from photography club asked me to be his photographer for their registry office wedding and eventually talked me into it.
Talk about nervous!

Well after spending about 100 quid on film, developing and camera hire this is about the only image that I like 🙁
There are a couple of B&W ones that I might scan in – we’ll have to see.

Well, I went to my first photography club competition last night. There were about fifteen entrants and 40 entries. The judge was a London based professional photographer and had judged many competitions in and around London. Some of the other club members have 20-30 years experience and are are members of other clubs and have been entering competitions for years.
The judge had to mark the photos out of ten and then choose a first, second and third.
I got first and second equal!!! :vbg:
FIRST
SECOND EQUAL
So out of the three positions I got two!
I was so buzzed!

woo hoo ! i’ve just entered my first photography club competition
a couple of weeks ago i joined a photography club and they have a Black and White print competition coming up – i entered these 4 pictures:
that i printed on my epson 750. i’m just trying to get to grips with the whole printing thing so they weren’t as good as i was hoping. as this is my first comp and the printing isn’t great i’m really not expecting too much but it’ll be nice to get some feedback from the pro that’s doing the judging and the other members as well.
prints in today and results on tuesday nite!

Went to Twycross Zoo yesterday with a dozen or so fellow Canon digital SLR users. I also rented a 300mm F2.8 L IS lens from a place here in London to take with me. This lens is pretty big and costs about ?4,500 (hence the renting!!)
