final

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) Ramblings 2 Comments »

ooooh – it’s the final of Joe Millionaire tonight wink

update: Well that was a bit of a disappointment. The final program was so rigged to make Zora look like an angel and Sarah not so. We figured that Evan would pick Zora as she was a very normal person and was not used to loadsa money anyway. The million bucks at the end was not the huge twist that the annoying aussie butler was making out but was fun enough I guess (and who can complain with being handed half a million bucks!).

Anyone in the US have any updates on if they are still together? We have Joe Millionaire: The Aftermath next week but I’m not sure I can be bothered watching.

bulimic!

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) Max 2 Comments »

OMG Max is bulimic!  Well, not really smile He does have this bizarre habit of sticking his finger down his throat and throwing up though.  He really likes chewing on his fist and has gnawed away quite happily since he discovered that his fist could almost fit in his mouth. Then the thumb popped out so that got a chewing, then his index finger… The funny thing is that he sticks it so far in his mouth that he gags!

Stupid boy smile

cold – teeth

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) Ramblings 1 Comment »

This bloody cold’s still hanging around 🙁 If it’s the same one that everyone else seems to have then it’ll be another week or so before it’s gone………

…… which wouldn’t be so bad except that I need to get more work done on my teeth 🙁 I’ve had trouble with a molar that I had rebuilt about 10 years ago and for the last 18 months or so I’d get sharp pains when biting down on it every now and again. I knew it probably had a small crack in it but there really wasn’t anything that could really be done about it – until now! I was eating yesterday and felt a really bad pain in that tooth and knew straight away that something had given way. When I went to have a look in the mirror the whole inside rear quarter of that tooth wiggled nicely when I pushed it – eek!  So it was off to the dentist today to be told that we’d have to remove the wiggly bit, rebuild it and the put a crown over the tooth (about a $1000 :() We have to start off making a mould and he asked if I wanted to do that now. I would have said yes but I can hardly breathe through my nose so had to put it off for a couple of days to see if I can kick this cold a bit. If I can’t I’ll just have to dose up on decongestants but unfortunately it means I have to be really careful what and how I eat.

Other than that there’s not much going on.. hmm..

chop chop…

After hearing a comment on a TV show this morning I was doing some research into circumcision in New Zealand. This was not to help decide whether or not Max will be circumcised – Vic and I are in complete accordance on this (he won’t be)

The TV show said that the overall rate of male circumcision in New Zealand was less than one percent! I didn’t have a particular figure in mind, I just thought it would be higher.  I seems that your ethnic background has a massive influence in whether or not you’ll be circumcised – understandable if we’re talking, for example, Jews vs non-Jews but it seems that the overriding infulence was your racial roots.  The figures were as follows:

? Maori – pretty much 0% as it’s never part of their culture

? Pacific Islanders – pretty much 100% as it always has been part of their culture

? Pakeha (European New Zealanders) – Less than 0.5% (as of 1995)

Another very interesting trend is that the percentage for the first two groups has stayed constant whereas the figure for Pakeha was at a high of 95% in 1950 and has been steadily decreasing to almost zero ever since.

getting there

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) News 3 Comments »

Max and I are slowly getting better and thanks for the thoughts everyone smile My fever has broken (it’s always nice waking up in a pool of sweat!) and now it’s just a clogged head and snuffly nose.  Of course I’m speaking just for me as Max has no way of telling us exactly what’s happening to him – just from the noises he’s making he seems to be following the same route as his Dad though.

On the job front I’m off to a meeting with one of the agencies in town this morning. It’s tough being out of bed by nine never mind out of the house! Unfortunately the job market seems pretty depressed in my area of IT at the moment so I’ll have to put some thought into whether I have any other skills that I can call upon………

Max and I have our first joint cold but I think he’s handling it better than me 🙁 wink I noticed yesterday that I had a sore throat and that Max was coughing in a strange, dry way. Yep, our first cold of the season – not bad yet but give it a few days………..

Poor wee man must have no idea what’s going on, just that he’s not feeling right and the only way he knows hows how to deal with it is to be grumbly all day – I have no excuse as I know whats going on so I can’t be all stroppy!
