Vic and I had a great weekend in Sydney and are back feeling worse than when we left π If you keep an eye on the twitter feed you’ll know all the stuff that we did but here’s a brief synopsis.
- Left on Friday afternoon and got together for dinner with some ex-Dell bods that I used to work with
- Saturday morning we headed off on the train and visited IKEA. We used to love going there when we lived in the UK and I was just thankful that we had small suitcases with us on this trip…….
- Saturday afternoon we headed down to Kings Wharf and had a work-related harbour cruise for three hours which was nice except for the rain that came in at the end. Here’s a pic taken with my phone with the Opera House and Bridge.

- Saturday night was the work function that was the reason for the trip. The Hilton in Sydney is only a couple of years old and the function itself was well run and very enjoyable.Β The rooms were really nice and we had not too bad a view. Again a phone pic as we left the camera on the kitchen bench at home!

- Sunday was spent wandering around Sydney and more specifically Chinatown and Paddy’s Market. Bought a few presents for the kids and then it was back to the airport for the trip home.

Max had his first game of football (soccer) today with the little dribblers football club π Unfortunately Vic and I are in Sydney but supposedly Max’s team won 4-2 and Max scored a goal! He also got a certificate for player of the day!

The whole theme switching thing was just confusing me and I’d get a different one every time I logged on so I’ve disabled it. Sorry to anyone that used it π

No idea if this is true or not but sheesh!
Never mind the nail scissors, what about the chainsaw. A reader writes: “My brother-in-law went through security at Auckland domestic airport and witnessed a passenger having to fish out her nail scissors from her handbag and leave them behind. He went through security and then boarded his plane. After being seated he could smell petrol. He knew you shouldn’t be able to smell petrol on a plane, because planes don’t use petrol. The smell got worse and eventually he got the attention of one of the flight attendants. They started to look around to see where it was coming from. They found in the overhead compartment a chainsaw in a bag that was leaking petrol into the compartment. His plane was delayed as the owner was identified and the chainsaw removed and put with the main luggage. The owner of the chainsaw said security had stopped him but had let him through because it wasn’t one of the things on their list to confiscate.

Vic and I are back from our weekend in Auckland and had a fantastic time.Β The food at Dine was divine and we had a nice relaxing time catching up with friends and wandering around the shops.Β Those that keep an eye on my Twitter feed will also know what we had to eat that evening π
The title of this post comes from the experience that Vic an I had this morning.
Max got up to go the the toilet and blow his nose (both the boys have colds) at about six a.m. and then muttered someting about “going back to sleep” – yeah right! ThisΒ from a boy that usually gets up between five thirty and six.
At seven thirty we had to go upstairs to get him up and he was still fast asleep!Β I don’t think he has ever slept that long but he was in a great mood this morning for a change.

I just had a “kids just melt your heart” moment π
Max’s class is having swimming lessons this week and are off to the pool every morning.Β Max is not a big fan of the water and didn’t enjoy it yesterday at all but this morning managed to get his face underwater which was a big step for him.
Tonight I was putting him to bed and I said how proud I was of him for doing that and that I was also really impressed with his reading skills.Β He looks up at me, puts his arm around my neck, says “thanks for saying that Dad” and gives me a big hug.
I think that will keep me going for a while π
