Someone around here is doing some work on the flooring of their apartment. I can’t tell if it’s above or below me – the whole flat is resounding with their hammer blows.
One of the bad things about working from home I guess 🙁
I’ll have to go out for a while at some stage though or there’ll be one more homicide investigation in London……………

The rain was so heavy this afternoon that it totally blocked the satellite TV signal. No pixellation, no picture jumping, no mis-synchronisation of picture and sound – nothing!

Another weekend over and another dent in our wallet! (luckily not too big
)
Vic’s been really busy at work the last few weeks so our weekends tend to be spent relaxing and recharging the batteries for the upcoming week. This weekend however was slightly different in that we had my birthday dinner on Saturday night.
The super six met at our place for a few pre-dinner drinks. 60 minutes, 1 bottle of Taittinger, 2 bottles of Veuve Clicquot , some cans of Guinness and some nibbles later we were on the 381 bus and on our way to the Mill Street Cafe at Tower Bridge.
Mill Street is our usual hang-out for special occasions and so we knew we were in for an enjoyable night! Our friends Angus and Prithvi met us there and the red wine started to flow………..
Not much to say really except the food was great (my fillet steak was about 2 inches thick and cooked to medium perfection), the company was in fine form, and because we were all half cut by the time we got there the bill wasn’t too outrageous
A quick bus trip back home at about midnight and it was coffee and birthday cake all around. The lovely Claire had bought a cake around on Thursday (she’s so thoughtful
)and so the night wound down to a close.
Thanks to everyone for the great presents and for making it an enjoyable birthday.

Thanks to Lynda we now have automatic smilies in this new blog – YAY! I’m working on getting them to be “clickable” in the comments page with a snippet of code from kathy but I’ve run into a few problems 🙁 Keep trying them and they should start working soon.
Update: Thanks to Lynda giving me the one line of code I was missing, the smilies in the comments should now be clickable. The smilie code will ALWAYS be put at the end of the text so make sure you add them as you go along 😮

1. Regular or electric/battery operated toothbrush?
Both! Depends on the mood and time constraints. If I want a hard core clean I’ll use the Braun 3D rechargeable

Three days into our four day weekend and things are very relaxed.
Saturday was spent catching up with friends (again!
) Lunch was Dim Sum (Yum Cha in NZ) with Steve and Geetha who moved to London about a week ago. Dinner was spent on the banks of the Thames in the sun with David, Claire and Richard.
Sunday – well football of course! England 1 – 1 Sweden. Lucky to get away with the draw too!
Today Vic and I went out to Europe’s largest shopping mall – Bluewater. 4 hours later I had bought a t-shirt – that’s it! 4 hours and one item was all I had to show for it 🙁
BLOODY ANNOYING! I went into Starbucks to buy a bottle of water and spotted something that Vic and I have been after for ages – one of those things you use to compress coffee when using an espresso machine (anyone know what they are called?) They had the US and Canadian prices on it but no UK pricing. The US price was $4.95 – this is equivalent to ?3.38 at todays rate (remember that figure) I took it up to the counter thinking “OK – UK prices are often the same in pounds as dollars so expect to pay about 5 quid”
“How much is this” I asked
The young lady behind the counter punched the code into the till and replied ”Seven pounds fifty sir”
Now I would have usually just said “no thanks” but was so astounded that they would want over twice as much for it that I had to say “you have got to be joking! You are seriously asking me to pay ?7.50 for something that is labeled the equivalent of ?3.40!!”
Her answer was “They ship them in from overseas”
Of course they do! I can’t imagine any UK manufacturer making these (Italian, yes) but 220% of the US cost!
And they are surprised when people use the term “Rip Off Britain”?
Bugger me sideways with a rubber fork!
