A big day in Max’s life today – we decided to do away with nappies (diapers) during the day for him! Here he is looking so proud of the first time in underpants
Vic and I have heard of various approaches to this matter and decided that a full-on, whole hog, deal with the accidents approach suited us best. He’s gone to the toilet in the potty a few times now and is able to tell us when he’s going in his nappy so we thought what the hell. We’ve only started today and things so far are going OK. We put him into underpants when we got home from going out today so it’s only been a couple of hours but he’s done really well and I’m very proud of him. We cleared the rugs out of the family room and will try to keep him on the easy to clean laminate flooring for a couple of days but already twice he’s asked to use the potty and has peed both times – yay!

I gave Max the digital camera for the first time the other day which was slightly nerve wracking. The boy has a knack I can tell you that! This was the first time he had held a camera and about 70% of the shots had a subject centered (I’ll wait until he’s three before I explain the rule of thirds
)
Here’s us snapping each other…….

It was a while coming but Max reached another milestone today – he counted all the way to 10 on his own! Max has been so close for a while but would always get misled somewhere along the line. 4-5-8, 6-7-8-7 you name the combination he seemed to come up with it! He’s got a one friend his age that has been counting to ten for a while now (his mother’s a teacher which may help
) so he seems to be in the middle of the bunch.
Another cool game we played while I was getting him ready for bed a few days ago was to name animals that live in the sea, have two legs, have four legs, fly in the sky – you know, the usual. One that I threw in there that I thought would confuse him was “name an animal that lives under the ground” He thought about for at least ten seconds and then said “worm” – good man!

Over a week since the last update and what’s happened? Sod all…..
Elliot turned four months on Sunday but we didn’t celebrate it with a big party and invite all his friends. A little family dinner (milk for him) seemed appropriate and it passed without incident.
As for Max he has now reached the age where it seems he doesn’t need a sleep in the middle of the day. I should say “doesn’t want a sleep during the day” because the stroppy little bugger could certainly do with a couple of extra hours! I guess his body is getting used to two hours less a day as he isn’t sleeping any more than he used to at night and we are paying the price. The really funny thing is you’ll sit him on his potty for half an hour before his nap time and nothing will happen then as soon as you put him in his room he’ll squeeze one out so he can come down and tell you about it!
Anyway I hope you are all well.

Yay – Max did his first poo in a potty today
We’ve had in in the family room for a couple of days and he picked it up this morning, we thought to play with it. I decided to sit him on it an lo and behold he squeezed one out! Admittidly it wasn’t a huge one and it certainly won’t be the last to day but hey, it’s a start! He also got the lollipop that’s been sitting in my office for the last couple of months waiting for this moment (and he’s known about it)

I know, I know, it’s been more than a week and y’all probably expect me to say that nothing’s happened – not so!
The main thing is that in the last week we’ve had both the boys sleep right through for six of the seven nights! The first night was last Friday and Elliot had been up almost all day so when it got to 19:30 he was absolutely shattered. We put Max to bed at seven and Elliot at seven thirty and Max was the first to wake up at 06:30 while Elliot slept through to 07:30 – twelve hours! Almost every night since they have slept through – the only exception being Tuesday (I think) Elliot sometimes won’t go to bed until 21:30 or so but once he’s down he’s OK until the morning. The funny thing is that I felt better getting less sleep!
A funny thing happened the other day too. My brother Jason and his wife Selena left for London over a year ago now so Max will have been about 18 months old at the time. We were lying in bed the other day and he was trying to peel my tattoo off (as he does sometimes
) and I asked him who had drawn it – Uncle Jason he said after a slight hesitation which was quite cool. Not only did he do that but two days ago he was having his first horsey ride on Daddy’s back
and I thought I would teach him something of his family so asked who owned a horse. Aunty ‘elena he said after a little while! I guess we must have been talking about but we certainly hadn’t discussed it with him! The boy’s a sponge!

It’s been a while but I got out my D30 last night. It’s so much more responsive than my digicam (which is 3 years newer!) and it was like visiting an old friend.
Here’s a couple of shots – D30, 100mm F2.8 macro, EX420 bounced off the ceiling. My Mum says that all my photos are too dark – what do you guys see? The joys of the net is that if my monitor is way out then they’ll look like crap to everyone else.

Where the hell does the time go! What’s happened in the last week or so?
• Elliot has moved out of his moses basket and into his cot. He looks so little in the massive cot *sniff* I can’t believe he’s over 3 months old now and is smiling and gurgling away……
• Max has periods of being a right little shit! He is a two year old and damn, he’s annoying sometimes! Most of the time though he is a little angel and has taken to getting all the soft toys off his shelves and jumping all over them on his bed
• Other than that not a lot has happened in the last six days – sad huh?
