an entry – no, really!

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) News No Comments »

It’s been a while hasn’t it? Even worse is that it’s not like nothing has been happening either it’s just that I haven’t posted 🙁

So what’s happened?

Max has been at school for about seven weeks and after a rocky start, where he didn’t want to be left, seems to be doing well. We had our first parent-teacher meeting last week and Miss Wylie, Max’s teacher, didn’t have a negative thing to say about him. He’s slightly advanced in reading and maths and really focusses well on the task at hand. We are very proud of him but realise it’s a looooooong road 😉

Elliot starts kindy next week (I know, so soon!) which is about six weeks earlier than we had originally been told. I think he’ll do OK as he spent a lot of time there dropping off and picking up Max anyway so he should feel OK……. we’ll see!

Easter was spent with a “honey-do” list 😉 which included the following: clear the bank (cliff!) of brush in preparation for the planting of native plants and trees, move about 2 tons of a topsoil/compost mix into the new vegetable garden, lay a concrete slab along the side off the house which would have been OK but we couldn’t hire a mixer on the day and I had to mix all the concrete by hand. It doesn’t sound like much but all four days off were very full and we felt pretty good about things when it was over 🙂

More travel with work. Now that we’ve hired a person in Auckland (yay!) my travel will decrease significantly once he’s up to speed which should be within a month or so.

The golf game mentioned below was good fun.  Our team didn’t win anything but supposedly we’ll all receive a really nice golf club travel bag over the next few weeks just for showing up – sweet!

I think that’s the major points. Once Vic reads this I’m sure she will point out anything I’ve missed and any mistakes I’ve made……..

you know you travel too much when….

…. you get invited to your national airline’s coporate golf day!

When you ask how it is you were invited they say, and I quote from the email, “We invited you as a high level frequent flyer and also from our records we were of the understanding that you were a keen golfer”

C’mon March 28th 🙂

beading

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) House 1 Comment »

Only 1351 days after we moved in to our house and I have completed the beading around the kitchen joinery to hide the small gap between the joinery and wooden flooring. It was only 13 sections ranging from an inch to about 4 feet in length that needed gluing to the joinery. Unfortunately some of the very thin wood had warped slightly and so a lot of time was spent on my knees pressing bits of wood down that seemed to have an aversion to other bits of wood……

world famous in the northern suburbs

Max was walking to school a couple of weeks ago on the walking school bus and as he neared school he and one of his friends (along with parents) were asked if they wanted to pose for a photo. The photographer was from our local newspaper The Norwester and they were doing a story on walking to school rather than driving.

The funny thing is that although Max regularly walks to school it was David’s first day on the “bus” 🙂 Here’s the whole story.

early night

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) Elliot 1 Comment »

Elliot must have been a wee bit tired last night.

Here’s the timeline that occurred yesterday:

15:30: Elliot is as grumpy as hell so Vic sends him off to bed for a nap

16:45: I get home early from work and head upstairs to bring him down

17:00: After 15 minutes of a stroppy almost three year old whining that he wants to go back to bed I put him in his PJ’s, clean his teeth and put him back into bed

22:00: I just know he’s going to be up early so I head off to bed

05:05: Elliot wakes up in a really good mood and he and I head down for some breakfast

Yep, into bed at 3:30 in the afternoon with hardly any lunch and no dinner – what a freak 🙂

iphone

No I don’t have one but I like the way that some bloke from a law firm in Australia talks about the exclusive deals that Apple makes iPhone users and providers sign.

“It would be like Ford deciding that from now on all of the cars they produce can only use be used with petrol from Shell.”

“If you fill your car up with fuel from BP the ignition system will detect that and shut down the car.”

away games

I went through my diary today and worked out that I have been away for 78 nights in the last year (doesn’t include day trips)….. I think that’s quite a lot.
