the morning after

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) News 1 Comment »

Well it’s the afternoon after the first morning after first night that Max was in his home and I’m not feeling too bad (famous last words!) Vic and I had a terrible nights sleep and Max didn’t really fare much better. The poor wee chap would leave it no more than half an hour before he’d start crying so we’d lie there for a few minutes waiting to see if he’d stop and then take turns on getting up if he didn’t.

When I got up I’d check his nappy and change it if needed it (all normal stuff coming out now!) and then wander around for a bit to see if that would help. Unfortunately he would usually only quiet down if he had a nipple in his mouth (and we all know how that works wink) so Vic would usually have to get up and start feeding him. The funny/annoying thing is that he’d feed for about two minutes and then fall asleep the little bugger! At six this morning during the one time that Vic was feeding him in our bed I had an idea though. I took off my t-shirt and lay him on my chest so that we had some skin to skin contact and so that he could hear my heart. This really seemed to work as he and Vic both slept for the next three hours smile The feelings of tenderness and love for him really kicked in during this time and I felt amazingly lucky and privileged to have such a perfect little son. The last few days have also unlocked a different level in my love for Vic as well and seeing her as a mother just makes me want to hug her all the time, which can be annoying when she’s trying to do stuff! lol!

We really seem to have bonded as a family and that’s pretty damn cool (I’m getting way too soppy, must be overtired) I got up at 09:00 and put Max in his moses basket and he slept for an extra hour while I caught a few z’s as well.

The community midwife paid us the first visit this morning as well and she gave Max the all clear except for a touch of jaundice so that’s another check out of the way.

I hope everyone’s OK – sorry to all my blogging friends for the lack of comments but I’m sure you understand that things are a bit hectic at the moment. I’m just about finding time to visit but not to comment 🙁

snow!!

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) News No Comments »

I’m at work and it’s bucketing down with snow! YAY! This is proper snow – not the crap stuff we had yesterday. It’s not supposed to last long but it’s falling pretty heavily and we should get a few inches over the next couple of hours. I left my camera at home though 🙁 I’ll have a go with my PDA and see how they turn out……….

Update: see, and it’s still going…..smile

parentcraft

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) News No Comments »

Two days with no access to the site and it seems that so much has happened! Boring for the rest of the world but interesting/exciting for us.

1) As mentioned previously we had our antenatal class on Monday. 7 straight hours of information relating to childbirth! There’s not much to say about it except for the one major fact that I learnt: If Vic has to ask “Am I in labour?” then she’s not lol! The one thing that I was worried about was knowing when we should go to hospital – after the class I feel a lot more comfortable with that bit of it.

2) It snowed yesterday! We very rarely get snow that hangs around for any length of time in London but yesterday it lasted until about lunchtime – pictures to follow (they’re on my PC at home) People that actually get snow regularly will think it’s pathetic though smile

parentcaft….

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) News No Comments »

Sunday night sitting in front of the TV watching The Browns vs The Steelers and The 49ers vs The Giants (some of y’all might understand what I’m talking about smile) The first game has just finished, the second about to start and my belly is full of curry – ahhhhhhhhhhhh

We have our one and only “parentcraft” class tomorrow (ante-natal to everyone) The midwives and doctors were crap at booking it and so here we are, two weeks from the due date and only just now getting to go to it! They used to have them spread throughout a couple of months but now just have a 7 hour “tell ‘em everything” day which, IMO, is a good idea. Am I looking forward to it? I guess so, if nothing else it will give me an idea of where to take Vic! wink We have seen so many baby and birth related programes on Discovery Health that I feel like we’ve undergone loads of training already.

Vic is getting more tired and uncomfortable as the days go by. The books say that she’ll be a real witch from now until the birth and she has a) warned me of this and b) is living up to it! The strange thing is that she’s normally a very relaxed, happy person so this is all a bit new! All I have to do is remember not to disagree with her on anything, no matter how small and to look after her………… smile She’s not that bad really wink

And now for something that I totally forgot about until Vic mentioned it – it’s our second wedding anniversary tommorrow!

Vic: What are doing tommorow?

Me: Going to parentcraft class!

Vic: No, in the evening

Me: I dunno – why?

Vic: It’s our wedding anniversary!

Me: D’oh!!!!!!!

I must admit, with the baby being so close I genuinely forgot all about it 🙁 Vic hasn’t done/bought me anything but at least she remembered…….

happy new year

Happy New Year everyone! smile

I hope that everyone had a good night seeing in 2003. We went out for a while to Richard and Fiona’s place but came home at about 10 due to Vic feeling ill. Poor wee thing had an upset tummy and the cramps were really knocking her about (labour! not wink) I personally saw midnight in trying to get through the abattoir in Splinter Cell smile

I am really looking forward to 2003. Becoming a father is taking up almost all my waking thoughts and every twinge that Vic has gets my heart racing.

Yay! – Bring on 2003 !

another christmas over

This post was written by Marc in the category(ies) News 1 Comment »

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. If it was as good as ours then the world will be a better place smile

We woke early on Christmas morning (Vic’s sleeping badly at the moment) and got up to call the people in NZ that we couldn’t get hold of on our xmas eve (their xmas morning) Then we opened our pressies wink Even Fidget got into the mood by buying me a DVD of Billy Connelly in concert. The amazing thing is that the handwriting was scarily similar to Vic’s – is handwriting hereditary? lol!  We then had a nice cooked breakfast and chilled out for a couple of hours, me by playing my two new x-box games ( Fifa 2003 and Project Gotham Racing – thanks Vic!)

Then it was off to One Aldwych, a lovely 5 star hotel on Central London to meet up with the rest of the super six and Karin, Claire’s sister for an early check-in and xmas dinner. We had a few hours to kill until dinner so Vic went for a swim in the underground swimming pool. She wanted to see how she would float with such a big bump (the answer was surprisingly well smile) The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, the pre-dinner cocktails yummy and dinner was superb. We finished off with a few drinks in David and Claire’s room and then it was off to bed at about midnight. Another early wake up call from Vic’s bladder found us snuggled up under the linen sheets and down duvet at 07:30 this morning very relaxed and thinking what a great xmas it had been.

Another lovely meal (breakfast this time – organic smoked salmon and scrambled eggs) and a checkout later and here we are back at home watching, bizarrely, Muppet Treasure Island and waiting the few hours until I go to see LOTR – Two Towers. Vic’s not coming as she doesn’t think she can handle sitting there for three hours in a stretch 🙁 The poor wee thing is getting pretty uncomfortable as Fidget gets closer and closer but she is taking heart from the fact that it really isn’t far away at all.
