Long time no speak

It’s not that nothing’s happening because stuff is, it’s just that it’s not big – you know?  That and I’m having the crisis of blogging faith that people seem to have every now and again.

? Max is really growing up! He is so close to walking it’s not funny.  We went to a 3rd birthday party this weekend and our friends had bought a little trundler in the hope that their 18 month old daughter would use it to start standing.  Max grabbed it and was pushing it up and down the garden like crazy! Abbey then crawled into it and Max started pushing it with her in it The amazing thing is that then James, a five year old, hopped in and Max managed to push him across the grass for about 5 steps before giving in!  I have 139 pictures from the day and promise to post a couple in the next few days so keep an eye out.

He’s also started to make em type sounds and say mama a lot.  He’s been saying dada for a while but we’re not sure if he relates the sounds to us or is just practising

He’s also started dancing to music! lol! For those that know David Gray he looks just like him with the whole wiggly head thing going on! Hee hee – he looks so funny.

Vic took him to his first movie the other day too. The first Wednesday of every month a theatre in town runs a ‘Mums and Bubs’ session specifically for mothers and their babies. They do things like not dimming the lights all the way down do that you can see to change/feed etc.  Damn good idea I reckon!  They went to see Love Actually which she said wasn’t as good as the other Richard Curtis movies.

? Vic has her first night away from Max next week!  Dell is flying us up to Auckland for our Christmas party and Vic’s sister and mother have said they’ll babysit We’ll see how it goes…… The day after we get back I’m off to Sydney for a week for some SAN training – phew.

All I can say is “Oh my God!!” The night was great, the movie was fantastic and bloody Max was awake at 05:30 the little shit!

My night started off with the walk up the red carpet! It was very strange having all these people looking at you and obviously trying to decide if you were important enough to scream at It was even weirder if you were near someone they did recognise!

When we got to the theatre we had took check all phones, cameras etc. into security and then pass through metal detectors before getting into the seating area.  They really weren’t taking any chances………  Then of course we had the movie and boy what a movie! Grand, epic, sweeping, stunning – you name it. Just a fantastic movie and well worth going to see.

Then it was off to the party and copious amounts of alcohol and minimal amounts of food Myself and 2000 of my closest friends mingled and schmoozed for couple of hours and the I toddled off home at about 12:30am and managed to get into bed without waking Vic!

All in all a night to remember.

BTW did I mention that I’m off to the world premier of LOTR – The return of the King tonight? I didn’t? hmmm I get to go to the star studded dinner aferwards too

I’m making this entry from downstairs via my new wireless LAN – cool

802.11g @ 54Mbs throughout the house and now Vic doesn’t have to use the PC in the office – she can sit downstairs and check email, surf etc.  It took me a while to get it working – my work laptop couldn’t see the DHCP server in the router and it took a firmware upgrade to get it working.  The only problem is that the model number on the front of the router was not the model number of the innards! Strange and 4 hours worth of annoying 🙁

About 6 months ago I signed up to be a mystery shopper thinking that it might bring in a (tiny) bit of extra money.  Tonight I actually did my first survey! and it was a real hoot All I had to do was to call a major pizza chain and order two large pizzas, garlic bread and a bottle of coke.  There is an online survey with 40 questions relating to the experience and you get 10 bucks plus reimbursement for the meal. Free food!!

It’s Tuesday night and I thought I’d grab 10 minutes to do a brief update.

The weekend was too short (as usual) however my work laptop turned up and I’ve been having fun. Synch’ing my new phone and my Outlook contacts with me upstairs and the phone downstairs is….. interesting The joys of bluetooth.  Speaking of PC’s I’ve just ordered a 3com 802.11g wireless router and a PC card for our personal laptop.  My work PC has wireless built in and so all 3 systems will have always-on internet connectivity – cool Home network! Geek? not me!

I spent the day in Christchurch today (about a 45 min flight from Wellington) visiting customers and came home to discover that our new lounge suite had turned up which was a nice surprise! It’s lovely chocolate coloured leather and quite a square design.  I’ll take a photo in the weekend and let you see what it’s like.

Other than that not a lot is happening (I’ll think of something really important later – you wait!) Max is getting more and more steady on his feet and seems to be enjoying life.  He seems to be getting bigger by the day as well and is getting harder to lug around for any length of time

Just a couple of things today Work’s been busy (no it’s true!) and I pick up my new mobile phone tomorrow (SonyEricsson T610) I’m still working on the laptop but I’m pretty sure we’re getting closer…..

Vic and I have a date tonight!  Well kinda…. It’s the opening of the WPS Exhibition and so we’re off to that for drinks and nibbles with the deputy mayor opening the exhibition. After that we’ll head out for a nice meal somewhere while Vic’s mother and sister do battle with Max

Speaking of Max he’s standing up for longer and longer periods.  I think the record is about 20 seconds with no support and he’s started to crawl but on his feet, not his knees (like a monkey ) This doesn’t happen all the time but it’s something new and I don’t think it’ll be too long before he gives walking a go!

In reading this it seems to be really disjointed and kinda staccato. Kind of sums life up well really.

The All Blacks lost their semi-final at the world cup.  Frankly they deserved to lose as they met a Wallaby (Australian) team that wanted it more then them.  England (read Johnny Wilkinson) beat France for the second place in the final 🙁 I hate English rugby with a vengeance.  Yes I’m English and I know that they should be a team I support but I hate their boring, spoiling, unimaginative but oh so efficient style of play.  I sincerely hope they don’t win next weekend but have a feeling that the Wallabies may have used up their best against us on Saturday night.  The English have the best record of anyone this year but that doesn’t make them the best in my book 🙁

I know I haven’t posted much about Max here lately but that’s laziness on my part rather than lack of things going on.  The major thing with Max is that he’s started to stand on his own.  It’s actually quite funny to watch He’ll be standing there holding onto the table or your leg playing with a toy in one hand. He’ll then take his supporting hand off so it can play with the toy as well and stand perfectly upright and unsupported without thinking about it for about ten seconds.  After a while he’ll look around, figure out what he’s doing and slowly sink to a sitting position!  Very funny to watch and proof that his middle and inner ear is developing.

On another front I got my first pay cheque (well direct credit into my bank account) over the weekend!  The last one I had was in March so this has come as a great relief to our bank account. In honour of having some disposable income we went out and bought a lounge suite – a lovely chocolate brown leather number that’s kind of art-deco’ish We figured that leather should be fairly immune to the spills and splashes that are bound to happen over the next few years.  I’ll post a photo when in turns up in a couple of weeks.
